Heading to the Caribbean and looking for scenic views and immersive experiences?
How about a destination that’s off the beaten path, filled with natural wonders, rich history, and chocolate (yes, actual homemade chocolate)? Then Guadeloupe is for you!
In this video, I take you along on an unforgettable adventure through this butterfly-shaped French island — where we hike an active volcano, soak in some seriously stinky but awesome volcanic mud baths, and dive into the island’s sweet history with a hands-on cacao experience.
Get both scenic views and immersive experiences with this must-see stop. This is the farthest eastern point on the island of Grande Terre. Its craggy limestone rocks is battered by a strong surf, making for a memorable sight. It’s incredibly windy but a short hike up a hill gives visitors unparalleled views of the area, including the country’s archipelago and a giant wooden cross.
Take a trek through this rainforest in a national park to get a captivating view of 130-foot falls on lava rock. The hike takes about 3 hours but is a mildly difficult one. Make sure to wear the right footwear and be prepared to traverse slippery rocks on the way to the falls.
The country’s active volcano creates therapeutic mud that visitors can apply on themselves for no charge. A day at this beach is a spa experience!
Starting from the cacao bean itself, learn how the chocolate industry is making a slow comeback to the country. Make some yourself!
Hop a ferry to another island in Guadeloupe’s archipelago and check out one of the world’s most beautiful bays. Go snorkeling for some underwater fun. Before heading back to the ‘mainland’, get a dash of pirate history at Fort Napoleon.
The locals in Guadeloupe primarily speak French so learn a few phrases before you go and keep a translation app handy.
